PSVIII-5 Impact of Forage Allowance During mid- to Late-Gestation on the Performance of the cow/Calf Pair

Abstract The objective was to evaluate the effect of different forage allowance in mid late gestation on performance cow/calf pair. experiment started at final 151 days (D-151) until weaning (D205). Nellore cows pregnant with male calves [n = 56; 444±42 kg body weight (BW)] were blocked by initial BW and randomly assigned receive allowances (FA): (1) Low (LFA; 2.81 kgDM)/kgBW; (2) High (HFA; 7.58 kgDM/kgBW) calving (d0); divided into 6 blocks 12 paddocks 7.5 ha each consisting Urochloa brizantha cv. Marandu, without application treatment after d0. Cows received a protein supplement (33% TDN 50% CP) supply 0.1% BW/day from d-151 d0 ad libitum mineral mixture d205. Fasting BW, condition score (BCS) d-151, d205, mean daily gain (ADG), milk production composition d30, d120 d0, d205 used determining ADG. data analyzed ANOVA using PROC MIXED, SAS 9.4. HFA showed greater ADG BCS FA × period interaction (P< 0.01) D-151 D0. similar for kept LFA HFA, LFA; however, Milk not affected x (P≥0.21). (P=0.05) (P=0.13) In conclusion, low promoted feed restriction capable reducing consequently offspring birth weaning.
